Influenza

Influenza is caused by an RNA virus that is a part of the Orthomyxoviridae family of viruses. This family of viruses typically come into contact with mammal and bird species, infecting them through their respitory system.


Symptoms:

It takes one to four days for the virus to incubate in humans, however, they can become infectious before this period. Sympotms of this can last for up to three full weeks.
Sympotms of this virus include:
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Aches and Pains
  • Fatigue and Weakness
  • Extreme Exhaustion
  • Stuffy Nose
  • Sneezing
  • Sore Throat
  • Chest Discomfort and Cough

The influenza virus is spread quickly, through respitory drops that are released from the affected organism into the air. As well, it is often spread though the direct contact of contaminated surfaces, which aids it in its rapid spreading.

Prevention and Treatment:
Since influenza is a viral infection, there is not antibiotic used to treat it. Doctors reccommend that you get plenty of rest and fluids, as this will aid you in swiftly healing. However, there is a way that you can protect your body against this virus. Vaccines are available at many local places that will prevent the disease from being able to infect your body. Although, due to evolution in the virus, there is a new vaccine every time that a new strain emerges, meaning you should check with your doctor regularily in order to be fully protected.
